Hot Movie Takes: The Godfather

This post may container spoilers for the movie. It’s my hot take while watching or directly after watching the movie. Don’t expect too much from this post.

The story revolves around the Corleone family, a mafia family living in New York. The head of the family is Don Vito Corleone, who is better known as ‘The Godfather’. The movie starts off with The Godfather’s daughter being married. Here we get an inside look as to what is important to The Godfather and how he runs his family. Things go sideways for the family when The Godfather is gunned down in the street. While he’s healing in the hospital, a second assassination attempt is made on his life. His son is able to foil the plot but discovers that the police chief is in on the plot. He decides to take revenge by assassinating him at a restaurant. He is forced to flee the country and goes into hiding in Sicily. We cut back to New York and see the war that’s going on between the families. Sonny, one of The Godfather’s sons, is gunned down at a tollbooth. The Godfather decides to call a meeting of the 5 heads of the mafia families and they all agree to get into the drugs business. Eventually, The Godfather dies and Michael Corleone takes over as the new head of the family. Michael proceeds to have the other dons assassinated and the movie ends with Michael officially becoming the new don of the family.

This movie is extremely long and there are some really slow parts. I had to watch this across 3 days and I couldn’t wait until the credits rolled. I rate this a strong 6.5 cannolis out of 10.
